1. Membership for a library card shall be available to residents of Brewster County, at no charge, by completing an application.
2. A parent or guardian may complete an application for children under the age of 18. The parent/guardian will assume responsibility for materials checked out by these children.
3. A local address is required and may be verified by a current driver’s license or other government issued ID, voter’s registration card, property tax bill, or utility bill. A contact phone number is also required.
4. Library cards are non-transferable.
1. Items may be checked out from the library as follows:
a. Books – may be checked out for 1 month. A renewal may be requested for an additional 1 week, provided a reserve has not been placed on the book by another patron. Five (5) books per card holder may be checked out at a time.
b. DVDs – may be checked out for 1 week. Renewals are not permitted.
c. Library of Things – may be checked out for 1 week. A renewal may be requested for an additional 1 week, provided a reserve has not been placed on the item by another patron.
2. Books and other media items may be returned to the Mobile Library, BBCA office located at the Canyon View Community Park, or to a designated box located at the Community Garden.
3. Patrons will be notified of items not returned on time by their preferred method of communication (phone, text, email). Items not returned within a 3-day grace period will result in a temporary suspension of checkout privileges.
4. Items lost or damaged will incur a replacement cost equal to the current MSRP.
5. Library cards may be temporarily suspended until fines are paid or arrangements are made to correct outstanding overdue items.
6. Books designated “rare” by the Big Bend Public Library are not available for checkout.
